The definition of crafting is items, generally of an artistic and/or traditional nature, made by hand, or using simple tools. They are often useful and/or decorative items used in the home or given as gifts.
Craft items can include toys, gardening items and tools, luminaries, kitchen implements and tools, items for the office such as accessories, furnishings and furniture, decorative items for every room of the house, gifts and souvenirs, pictures, photos and art for the wall or tabletop, floor coverings or carpets, decorative or storage boxes, clothing, jewellery, handbags, fashion accessories, decorations for various holidays and greetings cards.
Through the ages man has made the things he needed into items of beauty and decoration, and we are still at it!
- People make their own Christmas gifts and cards.
- Parents encourage their children to make these items so that they learn that the joy of giving isn’t always tied to how much you spend.
- We make things to fill our spare time and sometimes get hooked on the craft because it’s so much fun to do.
- We sometimes make things because we haven’t got the money to buy the item and find we enjoy it that much more because it’s something we made with our own hands.
- Friends and relatives enjoy our hand made gifts so much more because we have put something of ourselves into them and that makes the effort so worthwhile for us.
There are as many reasons for getting involved with crafting as there are people involved with crafting.
Each of us has a different craft we really enjoy and our reasons for enjoyment are as individual as we are.
The Purpose of This Site
There are loads of places to get the supplies you need to do whatever craft takes your fancy and there are sites to show you how to make whatever you want to make (some better than others!).
The reason for this website is to take the very best craft projects we can find and make them available to anyone who wants to use the ideas, instructions, templates, patterns, etc. Over the coming weeks we will be adding to the collection of projects, as well as giving you the sources for obtaining the materials you will need.
We would love to hear from you about the projects you undertake – how they came out, if you had any problems with the instructions, if the project was for a gift, did the recipient enjoy their gift, etc.
So enjoy what you find and let us know how it all goes.
